This article is fantastic. I got a Nikon D3000 a few years ago and got really into photography. Since then, I've bought four manual focus lenses and one autofocus. And of those five lenses that I have, the one that has spent the most time on my camera has been my Nikon 55mm Macro AI-S lens. Manual focus not only slows you down, but it makes you really think more about the composition of your image. In addition, old lenses are generally cheaper and better built than modern autofocus lenses. And on top of all that, there's nothing like feeling the smooth mechanics of an old manual lens working as you use it.
