Introduced as “a new visual experience,” Nikon has just announced the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena lens for its mirrorless Z system. This short-telephoto prime is all about being the quintessential portrait lens; it emphasizes accurate rendering, smooth bokeh, and high sharpness, along with a focal length that flatters subjects and allows for an ideal amount of subject-background separation.
It’s going to be hard to follow up a week of Bild Expo and then IBC, but we can try with a few key announcements. Nikon took a very, very good shot at it with the release of the Zf, a retro-styled full-frame camera that takes the classic looks of the FM2 and combines them with modern imaging tech from the current Z Series mirrorless lineup. Nikon married the old and the new this week with the announcement of an addition to the Z-series lineup, the Nikon Zf. The Zf has a retro-inspired look reminiscent of the Nikon FM2 but with all the modern convenience of the Z6 II, and then some.

Nikon has announced two expansive zooms for Z series cameras: the NIKKOR Z 70-180mm f/2.8 and 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR. The 70-180mm f/2.8 brings the benefits of a fast, constant aperture to a compact and relatively lightweight form. The 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR becomes the farthest-reaching zoom for Z series cameras to date. Together they form a telephoto kit with massive coverage from portraits to events, wildlife, sports, and more.
Nikon’s latest firmware update for the Z9 mirrorless camera (V 4.0) adds Auto Capture functionality, expanded ISO for N-Log recording, expanded Hi-Res Zoom speeds, slow-motion video recording, and more.
Auto Capture allows photographers to set parameters for subjects to meet (e.g. motion, distance, subject detection) before the camera
